Connecting an AC Reactor or a DC Link Choke

Placement

When connecting to a power supply transformer with greater than 600 kVA capacity, or when switching a phase advance
capacitor, large peak current can flow through the input power supply circuit and damage converter components in the
drive.

As a preventive measure, install an AC reactor or a DC link choke to the input side of the drive. Installing an AC reactor
or a DC link choke will also help improve the power factor.

Install an AC reactor or a DC link choke if a DC drive or another type of thyristor converter is running from the same
power system, regardless of the power supply conditions shown in

Figure 8.19

.

Note: A DC link choke is built in to the drive models 2A0106 to 2A0432 and 4A0056 to 4A0260.
