Defining General Purpose I/O (GPIO) Connections

The NV9605, NV9606, NV9607, NV9609, NV9640, NV9641 and NV9575-VF control panels pro-
vide general-purpose I/O (GPIO) connections at the rear of the control panel. However, unlike the
NV9605, NV9606, NV9607, NV9609, NV9640 or NV9641, the NV9575-VF tally expander has no
other controls and is solely composed of GPIO connectors. For instructions on setting up GPIO
connectors for the NV9575-VF, see

NV9575-VF

on page 329. This section provides instructions

only for the NV9605, NV9606, NV9607, NV9609, NV9640 and NV9641.

On the control panels, eight optically isolated inputs can be configured to trigger an event on a tran-
sition from ‘off’ to ‘on’, and to trigger another event on a transition from ‘on’ to ‘off’.

Events include:

• A salvo.
• Route the “previous source” switched by any control panel to a destination.
• Route the “previous source” switched by this control panel to a destination.
• Four relays that can be configured to switch if the following conditions are present:

• One or more routes occurring on specific levels.
• Conditions involving output ports (destination, level).
• A transition on one or more of the control panel’s GPI inputs.

GPIO uses a single DB25 connector, at the rear of a control panel, that provides 12 pairs of signals
(PMOUT, NO,COM for the 4 relays and +, – for the 8 inputs) leaving one unused pin. You can
choose to connect any device to the inputs and outputs.

Using Boolean Expressions

The NV9605, NV9640 and NV9641 panels use Boolean expressions to create a series of actions
that occur when a button on the control panel is pressed. Boolean expressions comprise terms and
operators. Terms are operands and generated by choosing entries from the drop-down lists pro-
vided and then clicking

ADD

. Operators include those words listed in the left-hand section of the

Salvo

The button either executes a salvo or arms a salvo (where a

second press executes the salvo). When you assign Salvo to a
button, a drop-down list appears in which you select a salvo ID.

Source

Loads a predefined source device into the preset column, ready
for selection by pressing Take.
When you assign ‘Source’ to a button, a drop-down list appears
in which you select a source(s). Select a level from ‘Level Set
Filter’ to limit the sources to only those assigned to that level.

Undefined

Makes the button undefined and inactive. It will remain unlit.
