18. Using the Alias Table

Using the ‘Aliases’ table, aliases can be added, updated or deleted. The ‘Aliases’ table accessed
through the ‘Views’ pane enables you to assign a specific name for every instance of a particular
input port on a router. For example, you can configure all VTRs in your facility with 8 audio chan-
nels, even ones that don’t have that many channels. Using the ‘Alias’ table you could assign the
same port to channels 5-8 on a 4 channel VTR. By assigning the alias “SILENCE” you can force
each of those 4 channel VTRs to status “SILENCE” on channels 5-8.

Adding an Alias

Using the ‘Alias’ table, accessed through the ‘Views’ pane, you can add alias to ports. It is recom-
mended that when creating aliases that you use intuitive names that are descriptive or common to
your facility.

NV9000-SE saves all configuration changes to the database. Once changes are saved, there is no
“undo” function; the configuration is permanently altered. To implement saved configuration
changes, the changes must be written to the NV9000 system controller for dispersal to connected
routers. For information on implementing changes, see

Implementing Configuration Changes

on

page 17.

How to Add an Alias

1 Launch NV9000-SE. (See

Launching and Exiting the Application

on page 12.)

2 From the Navigation area, select the ‘Views’ pane and then ‘Aliases’. The ‘Aliases’ table

appears, as shown in Figure 18-1.
