B. Control Panels
NV9640
Each LCD button has four levels of brightness: off, low, medium, and high, and supports three
operational levels: high tally, low tally, and off. High tally can be either medium or high bright-
ness and low tally can be either low or medium brightness. High tally is always constrained to
be brighter than low tally.
The NV9640 provides a tree-structured button layout. You can define a “tree” of buttons in
such a way that each of the 30 buttons (all illuminated in various colors and having 3 lines of
text) can either execute a function or select a subtree (i.e., present an entirely new set of func-
tions at a lower level in the tree). The tree, with its subtrees, is not limited in size.
The button tree has a hierarchical structure as does your computer’s file system. During config-
uration, you can view a graphic display of the tree. Button pages that contain
Navigate
buttons
are displayed with file folder icons and + or – to the left of the page name. You can use the +
button to view more detail of a subtree. Use the – button to collapse the display of a subtree.
Button pages that do not contain
Navigate
buttons are displayed with a dark circle next to the
page name.
Although you can view the tree during configuration, the structure of the tree is not evident on
the panel itself. The panel operator must commit the tree structure to memory to be able to use
the panel. It is up to the person configuring the panel to design a simple and logical tree struc-
ture.
Some buttons functions are assigned by the system depending on the context. For example. if a
button page is to represent all sources in a category, and that set changes, the button subtree
adjusts in size dynamically. The panel software adds a “forward” button if there are more
sources than buttons. Pressing the forward button takes you to the next page of source buttons.
Button states depend on context. Many buttons remain unlit when their functions are disabled.
For example, the Page Up and Page Down buttons remain dark until there is an opportunity to
scroll up or down, respectively. An
XY/MD
button turns green for X-Y mode and amber for
multi-destination mode. The
XY/MD
function disappears in menu mode, info mode, or when you
switch to another button page.
Save Preset
goes low tally when you press
Clear Preset
.

—
eight lines of 42 characters.
In X-Y mode, the display is divided into 4 columns (Entry, Preset, Status, Level/Dest):
• Entry: contains mode, status, and data entry fields.
• Preset: the current preset state.
• Status: the current source state.
• Level/Dest: the current destination state.
Note
During configuration, you will use
Navigate
buttons to create a subtree. During
operation, panel users will press a
Navigate
button to access a subtree.
Note
We use the term “page” to mean the set of 30 button functions at any particular
level in the subtree.
Note
Button page names in the displayed tree default to the button text (up to 24 char-
acters). You can change names in the tree without affecting the button text.
