19. Managing User Names
Every control panel has a “user” name associated with it. The “user” assigned to a panel has admin-
istrative rights and can lock or protect a source or destination. The lock or protect is then “owned”
by that user. The lock and protection mechanism reports the user name when another operator tries
to use a locked or protected device. This enables the operator to contact the person who “owns” the
lock or protect.
Groups of panels can be assigned the same user name. When groups of panels have the same user
name, they share lock and protect permissions.
Using the ‘Users’ table, accessed through the ‘Views’ pane, user names can be added, updated or
deleted. The table also lists all user names currently in the NV9000-SE system. User names are
associated with panels using the ‘Panels’ table accessed through the ‘Views’ pane. (See
Adding a User
A user can be added to the NV9000-SE system at any time. Users are added using the ‘Users’ table
accessed through the ‘Views’ pane. User names are associated with panels to enable access control.
NV9000-SE saves all configuration changes to the database. Once changes are saved, there is no
“undo” function; the configuration is permanently altered. To implement configuration changes, the
NV9000 control system must write the configuration and then be restarted. For more information,
see the NV9000 User’s Guide.
