About This Book

The primary objective of this manual is to help communications system designers build systems using the
PowerQUICC II™ and to help software designers provide operating systems and user-level applications
to take fullest advantage of the PowerQUICC II.

This manual supports the following devices: the MPC8250, the MPC8255, the MPC8260, the MPC8264,
the MPC8265, and the MPC8266. Throughout this manual they are collectively referred to as the
PowerQUICC II. Device numbers are cited only if information does not pertain to all devices (refer to

Table ii

).

Although this book describes aspects regarding the PowerPC™ architecture that are critical for
understanding the PowerQUICC II core, it does not contain a complete description of the architecture.
Where additional information might help the reader, references are made to Programming Environments
Manual for 32-Bit Implementation of the PowerPC Architecture, REV 2
