10. Add devices either By View or by using the Advanced query option. For more information, see
" Adding devices by View " and " Adding devices by Advanced query ."
Confirm that the devices appear in the Devices for Deployment area.
11. Define the directory to save the software file in the Save Directory on Device field for every device
selected for software deployment.
Select the directory location from the list in the Save Directory on Device field, or click Modify
located to the right of the list, enter the name of the directory you want to save the file to in the Save
Directory on Device field in the popup Modify Save Directory on Device window, and click OK.
12. Review software version check results in the Check Result field of the Check Device Space list for
every device you have selected to ensure a successful software deployment.

If IMC was able to evaluate the software and determine that it is a valid match for the selected
device, the contents of the Check Result field contain the message: Software: Check
succeeded.

If the selected software is lower than the current version running on the selected device, the
contents of the Check Result field contain the message: Software: The version is lower than
the current version running on device.

If IMC was unable to evaluate the software and determine a valid match between the selected
device and the software, the contents of the Check Result field contain the message: Software:
The version could not be evaluated.

If the software version does not match the selected device type, the contents of the Check Result
field contain the message: Software: The version does not match the device type.

If the selected software is already running on the selected device, but the feature version is
inconsistent, the contents of the Check Result field contain the message: Software: The
version is currently running on device, but feature version is inconsistent.

If the selected software is already running on the selected device, but the patch version is
inconsistent, the contents of the Check Result field contain the message: Software: The
version is currently running on device, but patch version is inconsistent.

If the selected software is already running on the selected device, the contents of the Check
Result field contain the message: Software: The version is currently running on the device.
CAUTION:
If the software being deployed has the same name as a file that already exists on the device, the file being
deployed will overwrite the file on the device.
NOTE:
•
Software updates apply to full releases and patch releases.
• Software can be still deployed to devices that failed the version check.
• Software cannot be deployed to devices that are not supported by this feature or on devices that failed
communication.
13. Configure the following settings as needed in the Deploy Strategy section:

Use Only ISSU to Upgrade Software—For devices running the Comware V7 software, H3C
recommends that you click the option, so that you can upgrade software for the devices by using
In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU). For other devices, if you click the option, the deployment
will fail.
